About the Book
From 1954 to 1958 Arthur Larson was Under Secretary of Labor, director of the United States Information Agency, and special assistant for speeches to President Eisenhower. From 1958 until his retirement, he was head of the World Rule of Law Center at Duke University, Durham, NC.
Arthur Larson's book reviews the high points of his career as a student, attorney, author, and public servant. A chapter of special interest is that on his study of workers' compensation law in America, how is came about, how it has fared, and where it seems to be going. Readers will find personal favorites among the many entertaining stories in the book - perhaps that of Arthur's courtship of Florence Faye Newcomb, whom he met in a high-school debate in Madison, SD, and later married; or the story of his winning of a First at Oxford, in part through pure chance; or the story of the strange set of circumstances that kept his photo off the front cover of "Time" magazine.
