Title: An Alphabet Source Book
Author: Oscar Ogg
Publisher: Harper & Brothers
Publication Date: 1940-01-01
Type: Hardcover
Condition: Fair
Jacket condition: None
Notes: Book has been "reconditioned" by previous owner. Front and back cover have been neatly painted a medium blue color, a carefully-lettered label with the title and author in on the front cover and wraps around spine, and the entire cover has been laminated with a clear-adhesive backed vinyl that can't be removed. While not in its original state, the cover actually looks quite good, except for a solid bump to the bottom edge of the front cover. Binding is solid, pages are clean and unmarked, with some age toning at edges. Nice reference copy.
About the Book
Book contains much that will be of interest to the calligrapher or anyone interested in letter forms, especially from a mid-twentieth century perspective. Following a general introduction, there are sections on tools and their uses, materials, the historical development of the Roman alphabet, and a large section of historical letter styles - Roman Capitals, Square Capitals, Irish Semi-Unicials, Gothics, etc. Letter forms are printed very large with instructions on how to reproduce them.
