About the Book
Henry Roland was born in 1907 in Munich. After studying history of art in Munich, Berlin and Paris, he eventually settled in London in 1929. With Delbanco, a fellow German art historian, he sold Old Masters and nineteenth-century continental pictures with growing success. After the war he and his partners, Delbanco and Lillian Browse, opened an art gallery, Roland, Browse and Delbanco, in London's Cork Street, where they turned to the promotion of modern art, and it quickly developed into a firm of international repute.
In this charming memoir, Roland writes about his fifty colourful years in the London art scene. Here is a wealth of delightful and often amusing stories of the hurdles in art dealing...and the pitfalls in lovemaking.
